Detailed introduction to the various processes of barbed wire

May. 09, 2026

The PVC coating process for barbed wire is primarily divided into four methods: powder coating, dip coating, PVC coating, and PVC overlay. Each of these processes has its own characteristics, and the choice of PVC coating process depends on the specific product shape, technical requirements, and customer needs. Below, we will introduce each process in detail.

Powder coating for barbed wire is primarily electrostatic spraying, which involves spraying a layer of polyester onto the wire mesh surface and then curing it through heating to form a plastic layer. The characteristics of this process are a smooth surface, seamless integration of wire and plastic, and a good coating, but the plastic layer is relatively thin, as seen in European-style fencing.

Next, we will introduce dip coating for barbed wire. Dip coating involves heating and washing the wire mesh in a powder bath, then applying a layer of powder (polyethylene) to the surface, followed by cooling. The characteristics of this process are a less smooth surface, a seamless integration of wire and plastic, a good coating, and the thickest plastic layer, as seen in dip-coated fencing.

Finally, let's discuss the PVC coating process for barbed wire, which refers to Dutch mesh. Generally, it's PVC, and the welded wire mesh is heated to absorb PVC powder, then cooled. The characteristics of this process are a smooth surface, integrated wire and plastic coating, poor plastic quality, and a very thin plastic layer, similar to welded wire mesh and Dutch mesh.

Finally, let's talk about PVC-coated barbed wire. PVC coating generally involves coating the wire itself, and the coating thickness is relatively thick, reaching around 200 filaments, similar to other types, but mostly used on the "wire" itself. The characteristics of this process are a less smooth surface, separation of wire and plastic, moderate plastic quality, and a moderate plastic layer, similar to chain link fencing and gabion mesh.

Considerations for selecting barbed wire materials: Due to its series of development advantages and significant usage characteristics, barbed wire has become an indispensable material choice in security protection. Furthermore, its excellent protective performance and convenient installation conditions greatly save costs, thus gaining popularity in the security industry. It has become a common building material in security protection, providing better and more comfortable space-saving solutions.
