What are the types of steel mesh for bridges?

Reinforcing mesh is characterized by strong protective capabilities, structural integrity, and resistance to corrosion, acids, and alkalis, resulting in a long service life. In recent years, it has gained popularity among users and is widely applied across various industries. Currently, a variety of reinforcing mesh types are available on the market, and they can be customized to meet specific user needs. Bridge reinforcing mesh is affordable and comes in diverse styles, with designs that meet varied user requirements; it is easy to handle and of high quality. Welding the mesh is straightforward, as specialized tools are used for fabrication. During construction, lightweight contact methods can be employed. Although the structure is relatively simple—mostly flat—this actually highlights the mesh's robustness and stability, as flat structures offer greater flexibility in how loads are distributed.

Types of bridge reinforcing mesh include open-construction welded mesh, solid-web welded mesh, and multi-point embedded welded mesh; these represent a new generation of steel mesh products.

01. Open-construction welded mesh

Open-construction welded mesh is primarily categorized by production method: mechanized factory forming versus on-site flat-surface assembly (using bench-top units, open-frame machines, manual open-mold setups, or automatic diagonal welding). Its advantages include rapid construction and high quality, while its disadvantages are the large dimensions of the mesh panels and higher material costs.

02. Solid-web welded mesh

This type of bridge reinforcing mesh is transported via flatbed vehicles on-site, ensuring operator safety and environmental friendliness. Because it utilizes an open-process fabrication method, the steel bars are formed uniformly according to specifications, resulting in a single-layer structure.

03. Multi-point embedded welded mesh

Multi-point embedded welded mesh is a double-wire mesh system formed by linking together flat-steel reinforcing mesh panels. Two tie bars, capable of fully covering the structural reinforcement, have been successfully welded to the bridge's structural rebar, with two distinct longitudinal bars serving as the welded mesh.

Generally, the fabrication of multi-point embedded welded rebar mesh panels requires meeting the following structural conditions: (1) strict personnel requirements, necessitating a construction team that is safe, environmentally conscious, and highly efficient; and (2) management personnel must be well-versed in welding principles and possess the appropriate level of technical expertise.
